International PhD Programme on the “Dynamics of Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and DNA Damage Response”
Our International PhD Programme (IPP) on the “Dynamics of Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and DNA Damage Response” gives talented and enthusiastic students the opportunity to undertake interdisciplinary PhD research at the cutting edge of modern biology.
Our research groups cover a broad range of expertise and the Programme themes encompass epigenetics, transcriptional control & dynamics, RNA biology, DNA damage repair, chromatin biology, bioinformatics & systems biology (see www.imb-mainz.de/PhD for details).
The IPP includes a comprehensive programme for advanced training that covers a variety of topics that will directly benefit your research. These include, for instance, practical courses in bioinformatics, advanced microscopy, cytometry and cell sorting, qPCR, the analysis of microarray and next generation sequencing (NGS) data and statistics.
In addition to learning new, state-of-the-art techniques from the wide range of experts that are present within the Programme, there will also be dedicated courses teaching you the transferable skills that are essential for a successful career, whatever you go on to do. For example, we offer courses in scientific writing skills, presentation skills, project management and conflict management as well as patenting.
All students within the programme receive a generous stipend to support them during their research. Applicants should complete the online form found at www.imb-mainz.de/PhD.
As this is an international programme the first criterion for eligibility is that you are able to communicate in English, which is our working language. Secondly, you should have experience in a research environment and have, or be about to complete, a Masters or equivalent degree.
The deadline for applications is 1 August 2012. Shortlisted students will be invited to Mainz for interviews from 28- 29 October 2012.
