The 1968 Postgraduate Hardship Fund is an award of up to £3000 offered each academic year to a full time UK postgraduate student experiencing a serious financial shortfall during their studies.
Eligibility
The 1968 Postgraduate Hardship Fund is offered, through competitive application to students who meet the following eligibility criteria:
1. The applicants must be full time UK postgraduate students registered at Newcastle University.
2. Students must be at least at the mid-point of their studies before they will be considered. The mid-point is defined as at least six months for a Masters Student or 18 months for a doctoral student. Students over running their expected period of study will not be considered.
3. The fund is limited to students registered in the following Schools:
. School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development
. School of Biology
. School of Biomedical Sciences
. School of Medical Sciences Education Development
. School of Dental Sciences
. Students affiliated to the Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability
The award will be made through consideration of competitive applications and one student shall be chosen to receive the award according to their financial circumstances, their academic ability and energy and commitment to their course as commented on by their supervisor/ tutor.

You must complete the application form and provide a supporting statement from your academic supervisor.

Application Deadline
The deadline for applications is 1 April 2012. Schools will then select up to three applications which will be submitted to the manager of Student Financial Support (Dr Jim Smith) by the 13th April 2012, who will select a successful candidate using a specially convened panel.
