Polymer Composites, EngD

In the initial stage of this project, there is a need to measure, understand and model the changes in the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties that occur through small additions of nanotubes; including the critical dependence on the uniformity of the dispersion. The underlying mechanisms must be understood if the properties of these materials are to be successfully modelled, performance predicted and validation obtained from relevant experimental measurements; and applications successfully launched. Optimising the properties will require study of the processing stage, including techniques for attaining uniform dispersion.
