Modern wind turbines are experiencing rapid growth in both physical size and rated capacity. Wind turbine requires a reliable and efficient pitch angle controller to regulate its power output and to damp the flexible mode due to the usage of lighter construction material for larger wind turbine. This project will design an improved pitch angle controller for wind turbines based on a pdf plasma controller to maximise energy conversion efficiency and minimise mechanical load of the drive train. You are expected to carry out controller design, simulation verification and the implementation of the developed controller based on the current available plasma controller hardware. The PhD candidate should have at least a 2.1 B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering.
