This project forms an integral part of a recently established EU funded consortium between University of Lancaster, University of Liverpool and Tachograph Analysis Consultants Limited (TACL). You will be expected to have a strong computing background and a keen interest in the design, analysis and implementation of algorithmic solutions. You will have a degree or masters in Computer Science. Computing experience would be an adevantage. The graduate's time will be divided between the Department of Computer Science at the University of Liverpool and the offices of Tachograph Analysis Consultants Limited (TACL). The work will be performed under supervision of Prof Leszek A Gasieniec who leads the Algorithms and Complexity Group. The group is internationally renowned for its work in the design and analysis of discrete algorithms, combinatorial structures and studies on computational complexity theory. This work will be performed in close collaboration with TACL whose main activities are in the areas of transport operational management, incident & accident investigation and transport law. The program of work will focus on (1) the use and development of off-line and on-line analysis of time series representing abstraction of data obtained from tachographs, mobile devices and satellite navigation systems; (2) dynamic vehicle routing mechanisms with the emphasis on different objective functions; (3) micro and macro driver and vehicle optimisation; (3) sophisticated visualisation and feedback methods.
