This project is to develop a novel smart grid communication architecture where it enables the power grid to transfer power and information in all directions in a way such that the power transfer is more efficient, reliable, cleaner, secure, cost effective, resilient and responsive. Applicants should have a firstGupper second class degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or communications (preferably masters). Graduates should be able to demonstrate an interest in smart grid technology and should have good written and oral presentation skills. Industrial hands-on experience in electrical, electronic, or communication would be beneficial.

Centre for Global Eco-Innovation
This PhD is one of 50 industry-led funded PhD projects from the Centre for Global Eco-Innovation. The centre brings together the expertise, resources and global contacts of Lancaster University and the University of Liverpool, together with international commercialisation consultancy Inventya Ltd. The aim of the centre is to form collaborative R&D partnerships to enable and drive innovation in businesses, supporting the development of new products, processes and services for the global marketplace that have positive environmental benefits.
By joining the centre you will receive £16,000 per year as a centre graduate, have your postgraduate tuition fees paid for by your partner business (worth £12,000) and finish in a strong position to enter a competitive job market in the UK and overseas. The Centre for Global Eco-innovation is the only centre of its kind in Europe and is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
