Full time PhD Studentship - High Energy Physics Group
£13,590 pa (Stipend)
We are looking for a postgraduate research student to join our High Energy Physics Group at the University of Liverpool to study for a PhD studentship that will focus on the characterization and development of silicon sensors with modified junction profiles that exploit the charge multiplication process after high levels of irradiation.
This studentship provides the opportunity to participate in the irradiation experiments of these sensors with different type of particles and then conduct an in-depth characterization campaign using a variety of techniques. You will spend 1 year of the studentship carrying out experimental work at CERN Geneva as part of the CERN-RD50 collaboration.
The CERN/RD50 collaboration is a collaborative project developing radiation hard semiconductor detectors for very high luminosity colliders, particularly to face the requirements of the almost tenfold upgrade of the luminosity of the Large Hadron Collider. The RD50 project has 261 members with 48 participating institutes from different countries.
Your research will be supervised by Dr. Gianluigi Casse and Dr. Michael Moll (CERN).
Applicants should have achieved at least a first or upper second class degree in Physics.
REF: PHD-SILCAS Closing date: 15 September 2012
Your application should be received by Wednesday 15 September 2012 and should comprise a University of Liverpool postgraduate application form, official transcripts of degrees awarded to date and an up-to-date CV.
