Boston University Executive MBA Program

An MBA That Transforms You

As your career progresses, you may be considering a career path that leverages your scientific background by blending it with the power of an MBA. Indeed, combining a scientific degree with an MBA often provides a powerful pathway for success in an array of industries.

The BU Executive MBA Program is designed to transform high potential mid- to senior-level managers into high value leaders. The integrated curriculum trains students to think about business issues holistically rather than as individual functional areas. Our extensive use of case studies and experiential activities, coupled with a proven team learning approach, provides a dynamic environment that dramatically enhances the learning process. Students benefit greatly from the diversity, perspective, and substantial experience of both their peers and the senior faculty members who teach them.

Immediate Personal Returns, Organization-wide Benefits

An accelerated course of study allows you to earn your MBA while you work—in only 18 months. The program begins with a pre-program in December, 2012 and classes start in January, 2013. It concludes in June of the following year, encompassing the following highly integrated components:

Five Modules, occurring on Fridays and Saturdays every other week for 18 months
An Integrated Team-Based Assignment in each module
Four week-long residential sessions including one international session
The Capstone Project, involving the creation of an integrated business plan during the final module

Why Successful Managers in Biosciences Selected the Boston University Executive MBA Program

“I selected the BU EMBA program for its outstanding reputation and focus on enhancing manager’s decision making and leadership skills. These skills are critical for success in the pharmaceutical industry, which is dealing with immense challenges to increase productivity and drastically improve late stage pipelines, all in the context of sky-rocketing health care costs and greater scientific, regulatory, political and legal hurdles.”

Sudhir Rao, EMBA 2011
Associate Director, Business Development & Licensing Ironwood Pharmaceuticals

“Healthcare today must consider mutual and competing interests of not only the patient and physician but also the provider (site of care), payer and policy maker. Often these issues play out differently depending on the regional market context. The BU EMBA curriculum and experience provided me with the framework to understand how these drive strategy related to marketing, operations and product innovation, as well as the organizational structure and leadership needed to execute in the global marketplace.

David Konieczynski, EMBA 2010
Director, Research & Development
Johnson & Johnson

“The BU EMBA program enabled me to learn that the challenges and issues we face in the drug/device industry are not very different from the challenges faced by managers in other industries. The same principles apply; the importance of planning, using data to drive decision-making, understanding the influences both internal and external that affect a business and, the value of the people and their commitment to the organization.”

Jennifer H. Foley, EMBA 2001
Independent Clinical Research Consultant
