The MSc in Mathematical Modelling in Engineering and Industry is a 12 month full-time masters degree programme in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering at Newcastle University.

There is a growing demand in industry for graduates with mathematical modelling and computational expertise, and graduates from this programme will be well equipped to contribute effectively in a wide range of engineering and industrial environments, and to be able to participate fully in research projects.

The programme enables students to extend and enhance their skills in the development and application of mathematical and computational models used in the study of engineering systems, and provides the opportunity to undertake in-depth studies in chosen areas of interest.

Students pursue a research project; there is a wide scope in the choice of topics available for projects, and there may be opportunities for project work to be undertaken in collaboration with industry. Recent projects include: Modelling filament winding processes; Modelling and analysis of particle transport in complex fluid flows; Modelling bubble growth in polymerizing surgical cements; Mathematical and numerical study of heat transfer processes in porous media.

Applicants should have at least a 2.2 Honours degree (or equivalent) and an English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent). Expected fees for 2010/11 (not yet confirmed): Overseas: full time £10,525 UK/EU: full time £4,320.
