The MSc in Mechanical Engineering is a 12 month full-time masters degree programme in the School of Mechanical and Systems Engineering at Newcastle University.
This programme enables students to widen their mechanical engineering knowledge and skills, and to develop these to a postgraduate level with the opportunity to undertake in-depth studies in chosen areas of interest. Graduates from this programme will be able to work effectively in a wide range of mechanical engineering environments. There is a wide scope in the choice of topics available for individual projects, and there may be opportunities for project work to be undertaken in collaboration with industry. Examples of recent project topics include: Simulation of wear on rail tracks; Particle sedimentation near vortices; Analysis of pump impeller performance; Study of novel piezoelectric strain sensors; Security and integrity of pipeline systems; Journal bearing design and analysis; Formula Student car design.
Applicants should have at least a 2.2 Honours degree (or equivalent) and an English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent). Expected fees for 2010/11 (not yet confirmed): Overseas: full time £13,765 UK/EU: full time £4,320.
